Naxos Island is the largest island in Cyclades and it is one of the most beautiful among the Greek Islands. It combines superb fine sand beaches, with fertile valleys and mountainous beauty. It is one of the best holiday destinations among the Greek Islands, and its many attractions include the unique beauty, the variety of the landscape, the numerous historical places to visit, the beautiful walking wander routes, the tradition which has been preserved in many villages.

Naxos has the cosmopolitan atmosphere of a modern tourist resort, but at the same time has kept its traditional colour and it's local culture. Hora (the main town) is a harbour and the administrative centre of the island. It is a modern town, which offers all kinds of facilities. There is a Health Centre, banks, a very good market place and lots of restaurants, bars and cafes. It has a lively nightlife, not only during the summer months, like most islands, but all the year round.

It's famous beaches on the south western side of the island, which are made up of kilometers of white golden sand, are being developed rapidly, but at the same time still maintain some of the atmosphere of the seventies when they were discovered by the "flower people".

However for someone to really get to know Naxos, he must visit the inland areas, the mountain villages, to walk the paths which crisscross the island, to listen to the violin and the lute at one of the local festivals and to get drunk on the island's energy.

Getting here by Sea
Getting to Naxos Island from mainland Greece is simple as there are frequent services from Piraeus and Rafina ports and many other Greek Islands. Piraeus and Rafina ports are easily accessed from Athens International Airport, thanks to suburban rail and metro (change at Neratziotissa station) to Piraeus and frequent buses to Rafina. There is also a direct bus link from Athens Airport to Piraeus port (route ?96). Lavrio port is another option, located south east of the airport and the last years are daily departures in Summer to Naxos. There are 6 to 8 daily sea schedules in total to and from Mainland Greece and journey time depends on ferry / catamaran type. Getting here with high speed vessels will take 3.5 to 4 hours, while journey time with a ferry is 5.5 to 6.5 hours.
